Biology Research Commons

An end-of-life crisis.

Sam, hi! Matt Z- recommended I speak to you.

In the middle of the 23andMe closure crisis, I am recalling all of the amazing research on neurofibramatosis that the DMV Petri Dish led a couple years back. During that era, Gabe helped me explore PubMed and PubChem - both of these NIH data sets are immensely resourceful from a programmer's position, and I specialize in records collection & management.

I hope to build a "biology research commons", to help people access - and, crucially - discuss these academic publications. I shared the idea with Ulisses and both of us are producing an application to acquire 23&Me's research collections; this requires an associate professor as a principal investigator.

I am preparing a small brief to message professors in numerous universities across the US, in search of a PI to coordinate the research group. My inspiration is an old employer from college, the BEACON center that spanned many colleges.

I'd be eager to learn more of your career and biomed research experiences, and perhaps you see a place in this scenario to pursue more of your ambitions. Please message me on Signal: [c4lliope.99]

If you use email securely (sadly, gmail has been abusing their position), you can send me messages at calliope@operand.online

I hope years of dialogue can be made from a quick response to the current chaos.

Cheers; Calliope
